The Bamboo Room building and the Sandlass Beach Club on a summer Saturday at Highland Beach, ca. 1948. The parking lot is full of American sedans of the immediate postwar era; a family in bathing suits is walking toward the beach at right; the Highland Beach bathhouse row (the picket-fenced structure on the right side of the frame) is beyond. The old ferry-pier bridge is visible upper left, the new Route 36 bridge upper right, and the Highlands ridge fills the background. The Bamboo Room's cupola sits center of the main building. This is Highland Beach at its full postwar working weight.
