Your photograph. Your family. Your story.

The archive is not ours alone. Every family in Highlands has a drawer, an album, a shoebox, a hard drive — objects that would tell the history the site is trying to tell if we knew about them. Send us what you have.

We accept photographs, documents, maps, posters, letters, programs, tickets, ledgers, audio and video recordings, and the short paragraph of story that goes with any of them. If it belongs to the history of Highlands or Sandy Hook, it belongs here.

Before you send

Please read the short contribution agreement below and check the box that accompanies it. This gives Above the Hook the license to publish the material as part of the archive, with attribution to you and your family, in perpetuity. You retain the underlying copyright. You can withdraw permission at any time by writing to archive@abovethehook.com.

Contribution agreement — v1.0

I grant Above the Hook a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish, and archive the material as part of the Highlands History Project. I ask to be attributed on-frame as named below. I understand that I retain copyright and may withdraw permission at any time.

What happens next

  1. Our archivist reviews the submission within a week.
  2. If we can use it, we write back with a copy of the item page we'd like to publish and ask you to review it before it goes live.
  3. If we cannot use it — usually a rights question or a scope question — we say so plainly and offer to point you at another archive that might.

Every accepted item ships with a rust-tint on-frame attribution reading exactly the credit line you gave us above. If you want something different, tell us.
