The old wooden Sandy Hook bridge — the sawtoothed timber-trestle structure that carried horses, wagons, and (later) automobiles across the Shrewsbury before the 1932 Route 36 high bridge — seen from the ferry pier at Highland Beach around the turn of the twentieth century. Twin Lights on the Highlands ridge at upper left; the 1862 brownstone towers unmistakable. A man in whites in the foreground; a second man in dark suit at the right, seated by the pier fence.
