Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook

The Highland Beach ferry pier at the west end of the Shrewsbury wagon-and-pedestrian bridge, ca. 1905. Passengers walk from the wooden covered station platforms at left toward the ferry landing at right. A horse-drawn covered wagon fords the middle of the pier carrying baggage from the incoming boat; the bridge's iron-truss spans run to the mainland behind. The two shops at right are Johnson's and a small stall labeled CIGARS AND TOBACCOS. Women in Edwardian dresses carry parasols; men wear straw boaters.
