Colorized postcard — the pavilion at low tide, ca. 1908
ca. 1908
Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook
A hand-colored postcard of the Sandlass Pavilion at low tide, ca. 1908, with the swimming area drawn back to reveal the wooden piling foundations that carried the whole complex. A wide covered veranda runs around the pavilion's lower story; the second story shows the hexagonal roof lantern. Bathers and spectators shelter under the pilings at right; a diving platform stands beside the pavilion; a wooden rowboat is moored at the corner. The Bamboo Room dance-hall building (with the smaller red-roofed cupola) adjoins at right.
