An early pusher-configuration biplane — pilot and passenger seated in the open on the leading edge of the lower wing — over the Shrewsbury river with the Highlands ridge behind, ca. 1911. The aircraft's cloth-and-wire structure, front canard elevator, and rear-mounted pusher propeller are consistent with a Curtiss Model D or similar American exhibition biplane of the era. Early aviation exhibitions along the Jersey Shore were common between 1910 and 1914; the coastal geography of Sandy Hook made both takeoff-and-landing and public spectatorship straightforward.
