Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook

The Bamboo Room bar interior at Highland Beach, ca. 1935. The curved bar counter and its front are entirely lined with bamboo poles; the wall behind carries mirrored bottle racks and the corner column is also bamboo. Bentwood bar stools of the period line the counter's near side; small wooden tables and Bentwood chairs sit against the back wall at right. The ceiling is faced with narrow bamboo battens. A wall-mounted lamp casts warm light across the room. The room is empty in this frame — the light suggests either an off-hour or a pre-opening set.
