Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook

The Bamboo Room bar at Highland Beach, ca. 1935 — a second interior angle showing the full length of the bamboo-clad counter running the width of the room. Bentwood stools evenly spaced; the back bar carries three rows of bottles above a mirrored panel; the wall and ceiling are entirely faced with vertical bamboo poles. A small wall clock (barely legible in the shadows) sits above the register. The composition emphasizes what William Sandlass built: a working American bar with a fully realized Cuban-bamboo interior.
