Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook

The Sandlass Beach Club parking lot with the family house — future Building 600 — visible in the middle distance, ca. 1946. Two postwar Chevrolet and Ford sedans in the foreground, dozens more beyond, the Highlands ridge climbing behind. The white bath-house office building sits at right. Two young women in day dresses walk toward the club entrance at center. The scale of the postwar operation — three hundred to three hundred and fifty member families — visible in the density of the lot on an ordinary summer afternoon.
