ca. 1948

Highland Beach, foot of Sandy Hook

Two Bamboo Room bartenders in the room's signature short bolero-cut white uniform jackets — brown collars and cuffs, worn over brown trousers — pose behind the bar at Highland Beach, ca. 1948. Rheingold beer signage on the wall behind at left; the cash register at their left elbow; bottles and glassware on the bamboo shelves behind. Both men wear patterned neckties of the period — one paisley polka-dot, the other art-deco geometric. The identities of the two men are not yet confirmed from family memory.
