N. Currier's lithograph of the wreck, published in New York the same year and deposited in the Clerk's Office on 27 February 1846 — twelve days after the storm. The hull is broken open in a following sea with figures crowded on what is left of the deck and a boat pulling clear at the right. The letterpress beneath the image carries the count: fifty-one persons on board, thirty-eight drowned or frozen to death, and among the lost Captain Stark, his wife, and their two children, the mate, the pilot, and all five cabin passengers. The sheet is the hero image of Chapter 5 and the source plate for the colorized reinterpretation held alongside it.
