A Royal-Navy-era engraving of a British frigate riding at anchor off the Highlands with the Sandy Hook Lighthouse visible on the low sandy shore beyond. Drawn by J. E. (a naval officer) and engraved by Baily; published in London on 30 March 1814 by Joyce Gold at the Naval Chronicle Office on Shoe Lane. Between the War of 1812 and the arrival of American charting, the Hook was still most legible to European readers through the pages of The Naval Chronicle — the standard British reference for the Atlantic coast.
