Warumnonung · The Falls · now Tinton Falls, Monmouth County (approx)

The foot of the deed of 24 August 1674, by which Matappeas, Taptawappamund, and Sepequena, chief sachems of the Toponemese, granted the tract the Lenape called Warumnonung and the English called The Falls to John Bowne, Richard Hartshorne, and James Grover of Middletown, in return for sundry species of trading goods. Each sachem's name is written by the clerk, each mark made beside it, each with its own seal in red wax. To the left, the witnesses Samuel Hopkins and Timothy Chandler, and the note of the deed's entry upon record in the Province of New Jersey on the second of March 1676/7. Three of the twelve Monmouth patentees are the grantees; the year is the one Richard Hartshorne arrived on the Bayshore.
