Twin Lights State Historic Site, Highlands, N.J.
The brownstone lighthouse on the Highlands bluff, first lit in 1828 and rebuilt in the current form in 1862. Home of the first American Fresnel lenses (1841), the first kerosene lamp (1883), the first electrified lighthouse in the country (1898), and Marconi's first practical U.S. wireless demonstration in 1899. Deactivated as a working aid in mid-century; the north tower was relit in 1962 as commemoration and burns still.
