Battery Lewis, Navesink Military Reservation
The 600-foot casemate of Battery Lewis at commissioning, October 1942. Two 16-inch guns removed from the retired battleship USS *Wyoming* installed on the highest ground of the coast between Maine and North Carolina. Range approximately twenty-five miles. Never fired at an enemy. Sold for scrap and the barrels removed in 1948.
