The front cover of The Oracle of the Highlands of Navesink, Vol. 1, No. 4, September 1895 — a Highland Beach-published newspaper. The masthead engraving shows the Sandlass Pavilion complex on the Shrewsbury with the Highland Beach railroad station at left and the highlands ridge behind. The front-page photograph is captioned GALA DAY, AUGUST 3d — SCENE ON SHORE DURING THE RACES and shows a crowd of perhaps a thousand people around the pavilion for the summer regatta. Primary source material of the resort's second decade.
