Looking down the roadway with the resort's turreted frontage on the left and, on the right, the two-storey shingled building with BAMBOO BAR lettered over its door. The Sandlass family lived on the floor above that door. The strip here is narrow enough to see both edges of it in one frame: the road, the building, and immediately behind it the revetment rock piled along the ocean side. It stood on this spot until the hurricane of September 1938; the family moved it south across the road the following year, and it is the building the Park Service now numbers 600. The research paper lists this figure as a view of Building 600 as the Bamboo Garden; the sign in the photograph reads BAMBOO BAR.
