Sandy Hook Lighthouse, British occupation, 1776–1783

The Sandy Hook tower with a small British garrison around it — pitched tents, a stockade fence, the Loyalist ensign on a pole, a pair of light field guns, two sentries on the beach. Sandy Hook remained in British and Loyalist hands from March 1776 until the war ended. This is the middle year.
