Spermaceti Cove, Sandy Hook

The Spermaceti Cove station on Sandy Hook, one of the eight houses built under the Newell Act and rebuilt as a permanent facility in the 1870s. Six-man crew in oilcloth coats and sou'westers standing in line for a Wednesday drill. Lifeboat on skids in front, ready to be run into the surf on a two-minute alarm.
