One of the twelve patentees named in the Monmouth Patent of April 8, 1665, by which deputy governor Richard Nicolls granted a triangular tract running from Sandy Hook west to the mouth of the Raritan, up the river about twenty-five miles, and southeast to Barnegat Bay. The patentees were mostly Long Island Quakers and Baptists, mostly out of Gravesend.
