Helen J. Sandlass was joint owner of the Sandlass Beach Club at the time the State of New Jersey moved to take Highland Beach by eminent domain. She was named as the second respondent in the family's 1962 suit against the state; when the New Jersey Superior Court awarded the family three hundred fifty thousand dollars on the twenty-eighth of December, 1962, the award ran to Henry J. and Helen J. Sandlass jointly. Her exact role in the day-to-day operation of the club is preserved in family memory and awaits fuller record.
